Ebikes

EKX x21 – My honest take

[ad_1]

So I started my Ebike journey roughly 2 months ago with a single goal in mind, being able to commute to work. 16 miles each way. Being able to do this journey requires some road riding which cannot be avoided.

I spent weeks trying to find a bike that I could look at and be like yeah that’s dope. And while I feel like I knocked it out of the park in the looks department, I’m riding that fine line between ebike and e dirtbike which could potentially cause issues if a lawman had a grudge against a Sur Ron.

Now after I scoured the webs for a bike which suited my needs I came across the issue of price. Now I know this bike is available on Newegg and Amazon and others for roughly $2000, some included shipping (Newegg) Amazon tacked on an extra ~200. That led me down a rabbit hole of locating it on Alibaba and after weeks of searching I managed to source it from one of the OEMs for $1400 shipped from California for free.

So tldr is I paid $1400 for this bike shipped from Cali in 5 days to my door.

I remember seeing a post on Reddit about a guy who called it the alibaba gamble bike, his being the x20 model and I’m sure he paid closer to 2000$ if my memory serves. At least I can say that this gamble paid off. Bike hits 35 mph, battery lasts for the whole journey back and forth to work and I can’t find a single downside.

If you want a really nice Ebike for $1400 shipped to your door in less than a week then this in my opinion is the way to go for anything in this price range.

I’d be willing to share where I got mine from if people are interested, I feel like if I found this for the price I did other people could source it as well and maybe the price isn’t special. Idk.

  1. I would like to point out, this is a really cute bike, but it’s a hub drive.. and there are just so many things wrong with that, I am not sure where to begin.

The Lunacycle xxx is the bike. It’s really the bike that sets the standard today, for a basic off-road, pedals available, fast mid-drive ebike enduro. I really do admire these bikes; but I will probably always find something I like better for my actual needs. Luna has other bikes that are even nicer; so think about it before you buy a cheap copy of the real thing that is not even over priced for what you get. $3k well spent; could last you for years as a commuter.

I notice many of their models are sold out; this is really the shining star of offroad ebikes as a US company, value first DTC.

  2. What would you say would be the maximum height and weight? Im a tall and heavy dude, so, i usually have to test bikes like these first, which is a shame since this looks exactly like what i’v been looking for!

  3. You commute on knobby tires? Must sound like a Jeep is coming when you hit 35mph. Knobby tires are really soft too, start looking for a quality tread tire. What you have won’t last long!
