Which value e-bike is the best?

[ad_1]

Looking for a budget e-bike that can fit a bike rack (so less than 50lb) and not take up too much space when parking it in my cubical at work. Don’t need too much performance boost either as I’m not looking to race around in it.

My use case is hopping around Manhattan and Queens as I live in the west side and work on the east side (and park my car in LIC). Low powered enough to still get a good cardio workout without killing my knees on steeper hills (or up the bridge). Anywhere too far I’d take the subway, but I want an e-bike so I can get a boost when accelerating a bit to compete with all the other e-bikes. Primarily whenever there’s a hill.

Narrowed my search down to a couple options:

Hyper 26inch bike (on sale for Black Friday $350)

Schwinn 700c at Walmart $400

Fido D3 Pro ($400)
Fiido D3 Pro Mini Electric Bike

Gotrax Emerge ($449) or Shift S2 ($339)

Jetson J5 ($449 bestbuy)

I’m leaning away from the Walmart options because it’s the largest and most the Fiido, but I’m concerned that the foldables won’t handle potholes well. For context I’m 6’2” and set my seating position on various Lyft bicycles at a 7.

What do yall think and recommend? Ideally would like an answer soon before sales end tonight. Already missed one e-bike that was on sale earlier today (was bigger than I like but the price was insane, and spent too much time debating instead of pulling the trigger). Thanks!!!

  1. ok so just a heads up for looking at these cheaper bikes in general: avoid folding, or full suspension id say because at this price they cant have done any research into a stable frame that wont break easily, the more it looks like a normal triangle style bike frame the better. unless you want to ride in snow or sand avoid fat tires too, they handle like crap, are sometimes hard to get replacement tires for and decrease range. then its up to deciding which of these has better components, dont skip good brakes, look for disk brake mounts on the frame, if the bike doesnt already have them, hydraulic disk brakes are a lot better than any other brake Type (there are hydraulic rim brakes too but these arent made anymore but are good too, disk is better), and arent that expensive anymore. drivetrain is something where you cant expect much. forks will be shitty pogo stick ones on all of them anyways, if you can find one with any suntour fork then it will be atleast ok-ish. now moving onto electronics, if you can find one with bafang electronics then go for that, bafang is good and has replacement parts. look for a ul certified battery too, to prevent your battery becomming the source of a fire.

  2. at the price I dont think you can beat the D3 Pro. A lot of bang for the buck.

But does it fit your requirements and need?

I would get a foldable unless you really need one. Just adds complexity.
